Service
Specialist Medical Care
Consultant-led assessment, diagnosis and treatment from a multidisciplinary consultant team covering the major medical subspecialties - for new problems, for second opinions, and for long-term conditions that need one clinician holding the whole picture.
What this service is
A proper assessment, then a decision
Specialist medical care is the front door of the clinic. A patient arrives with a symptom, a worrying result, or a diagnosis they were given elsewhere and do not trust. The job of this service is to convert that into something definite: what is going on, what should be done about it, and who is responsible for the next step.
Our specialists cover a range of subspecialties, which matters more than it sounds. A presentation that crosses two disciplines — a cardiac problem in a diabetic patient, say, or an abdominal complaint in pregnancy — can be discussed between the relevant clinicians in the same team rather than bounced between separate providers who never speak.
Where investigation is needed, it is ordered during the consultation and carried out by our own diagnostic service, so the clinician who requested a test is the one who reads it back to you.

What is included
Six things every specialist appointment covers
Not a menu of extras - this is what a consultation here means as standard.
Full clinical assessment
History, examination and a working diagnosis - not a five-minute triage.
Investigations arranged in-house
Laboratory and imaging requests raised during the same visit where indicated.
A written management plan
Diagnosis, treatment, medication and the next review date, given to you on paper.
Long-term condition review
Structured follow-up for hypertension, diabetes, asthma and other chronic conditions.
Second opinions
Independent review of a diagnosis or treatment plan you have been given elsewhere.
Onward referral when needed
Where a case needs a facility we do not have, we refer and hand over properly.
How it works
From first message to written plan
Four steps, and you are told who you are seeing before you arrive.
- 1
Book and describe the problem
A few lines in the form or a phone call. We use it to decide which specialist you should see.
- 2
We confirm the clinician and time
You are told who you are seeing and when, not simply given a slot.
- 3
Consultation and assessment
History and examination, with investigations ordered on the spot if they are needed.
- 4
Written plan and review date
You leave with the diagnosis, the plan and a clear next step - and we keep the record.
Questions
About specialist appointments
The things patients ask before booking a consultation with us.
No. You can book directly. If you do have a referral letter, previous results or scans, bring them - it prevents you paying twice for investigations you have already had.
Tell us in the booking form how urgent it feels and we will come back to you with the earliest suitable slot. If your description suggests something that should not wait, the triage team will call you rather than email.
Wherever possible, yes. Continuity is the point of the service. Where a colleague covers, they work from the same record and the same written plan.
Yes, and it is one of the more common reasons people come to us. Bring everything you have - reports, imaging, prescriptions - and the specialist will review it independently and tell you plainly whether they agree.
We say so, and we refer you onward with a proper handover rather than keeping a case we cannot serve well. That includes telling you what kind of facility you need.
Specialist consultation fees depend on the clinical specialty and whether it is an initial assessment or follow-up review. Written fees are confirmed upfront prior to booking.
